In October 2009, God brought together two groups in Holstein who'd been praying about reaching their community with the good news of Jesus Christ through a Bible-believing church. Some from this group had been attending Summit Church (Alta, IA) and God had laid it on the leaders at Summit to plant a new church over a year before. When the Holstein group gathered with leaders from Summit to discuss beliefs and goals, the group decided to pursue affiliation with the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA).
This initial Launch Team gathered every other week through the first half of 2010 at the Holstein Community Center to discuss the EFCA Statement of Faith, for prayer, and worship. Several outreach events were scheduled and relationships continued to be built. Two preview worship services were held in the fall of 2010 at the Lohff-Schumann Community Center in Holstein.
After a year of praying and planning, CrossRidge launched weekly Sunday morning worship services on January 9, 2011. Children's Sunday school and Adult Bible Fellowship began just a few weeks later. Summit's Kevin Mahr served as Campus Pastor & Doug Corlew served as the Teaching Pastor via recorded sermons with live preaching about monthly. God also blessed CrossRidge with prayer & financial support from surrounding E-Free churches during these early days. We grew to move worship from the community room into the gym by Easter of 2011.
In April 2011 the “Rocket Team” (since CrossRidge had successfully taken flight the "Launch Team" was given a new name) invited Tyler Parson to candidate as pastor. After a unanimous vote Tyler Parson accepted the call to serve as
CrossRidge’s first Pastor on May 15, 2011.
In 2012 we purchased and renovated our church office building (117 S. Main), began small group Bible studies in homes, and received our first members. In 2013, we elected our first leaders and on March 5 of that year CrossRidge was unanimously received by the Central District Conference of the Evangelical Free Church of America as a full charter member church. Our current Ministry Assistant, Gayle Brown, also accepted her part-time position that year.
In 2014 we launched RiDGE KiDS - our weekly children's discipleship ministry. We also called a youth ministry intern to serve for that year.
In 2015 a Women's Bible study and weekly Youth Group were organized. The Lord continues bringing people to our midst as our congregation sees regular newcomers and matures.
By God's grace we continue to intentionally engage others to build trusted relationships, evangelize our community in ordinary conversation, establish believers together as the local church living God's Word, equip our people to do the work of ministry that He has uniquely called us to accomplish, and expand the good news of Jesus in His disciple-multiplication movement.
